Reussenköge, January 25th 2016. As efficient and environmentally friendly mobility solutions, electric vehicles play a vital role in the energy revolution. Currently, one fifth of all CO2 emissions in Germany are attributable to the transport sector. However, the batteries in the vehicles also offer an enormous potential for electricity storage, and are therefore gaining in importance when it comes to integrating fluctuating power generation levels from solar and wind energy into the electricity grid. They make it possible to store excess RSE electricity and release it into the power grid when it is needed. By employing an effective method of energy sector coupling – i.e. precisely this use of excess electricity from renewable sources to enable mobility and transport while at the same time creating flexibility for RSE electricity – it is possible to take the decisive step from what is still purely an electricity revolution to a genuine energy revolution.
