Reußenköge/Bremerhaven, 8 October 2019 – GP JOULE and Green Fuels are to jointly engage in concrete hydrogen projects in Bremerhaven and the north-western region. The internationally successful renewable energies group based in North Frisia and the ambitious start-up from Bremerhaven have launched a hydrogen project initiative for this purpose: as the “BH2V Alliance”, the two companies are joining forces with each other and additional partners with the aim of developing and implementing regional mobility solutions using green hydrogen from renewable energies and scaling these accordingly to suit a range of different practical applications. The model for this undertaking is eFarm – Germany’s largest green hydrogen mobility project initiated by GP JOULE.
“In the Bremerhaven region we’re directly involved in the future market for climate-neutral hydrogen – there are major customers to be found here in the maritime sector, in heavy goods traffic and also in public transport. There are also relevant consumers for waste heat in this region. At the same time, renewable generation capacity is directly on site, especially from wind power. And don’t forget: Bremerhaven and the “wet triangle” act as a global logistics hub,” explains GP JOULE CEO Ove Petersen. “In North Frisia, we’ve successfully launched eFarm – Germany's biggest green hydrogen mobility project: the ground-breaking ceremony for the first electrolyser installation is due to take place in January 2020. Now is the time to dedicate our expertise to the next promising hydrogen project, which fits the bill perfectly,” adds André Steinau, Project Manager eFarm and responsible for Hydrogen Business Development at GP JOULE.
Andreas Wellbrock, Managing Director of Green Fuels: “We want to take action and start with the development of the necessary tailor-made infrastructure and technology for hydrogen production and storage, right through to concrete applications. In collaboration with other partners and protagonists along the entire value chain, we aim to build these up and gain valuable experience.” The BH2V Alliance seeks to establish itself as the key driver behind a regional hydrogen economy in Bremerhaven and the north-western region. “Here we can be sure of cross-party support – our project initiative is now making a significant contribution to putting the five coastal federal states’ North German hydrogen strategy into practice. With the combined expertise of the founding partners GP JOULE and Green Fuels, there is now a contact partner available for the concrete implementation of hydrogen projects initiated by state governments, administrative authorities, the maritime economy and logistics companies”. The support of further partners/companies is to be gained in the coming months for the first project in the Bremerhaven area. Project development, construction and operation of the climate-friendly hydrogen infrastructure and applications in the region will be carried out jointly – investments will be made along the entire value chain from production to use. Synchronisation between the production and consumption of “green hydrogen” is of crucial importance.
